"For knowing, this is all my fault,
for I am the one to blame"
*******
"I'm sorry! You know I am! I don't know what I was thinking! Can't you forgive me?"
Tears began to form.
"Luce... I don't think I can..."
"Jeff, no. No! You can! It's me, it's your Lucy!"
Silence.
"Jeff?!"
"Lucy, he was my only enemy..." Footsteps rang out in the empty hallway and slowly faded away to nothing.
Lucy's white hands clamped over her mouth. Three years; thats how long they'd been together. Two years as strangers, then two as friends. Then those last three, wonderful- more than wonderful- years.
And she'd ended it by putting her lips against those on the wrong person. Did she do it for kicks? Was it to see what it would be like kissing someone else for a change? Or did she do it in hopes Jeff would've gotten riled up and fight for her?
'Dammit Luce!'
'You could've kissed anyone!'
'Why him?!'
Lucy's and Jeff's friends' voices rang in her head. "Oh God," she whispered. She was disgusted with herself. She wanted to die. She, Lucy Pendragon the smart-cool-sweet girl, had just, single-handedly, ruined the best relationship anyone could ever hope for. Ever.
Lucy raced down the hall and down the grand staircase. She could feel the hundreds of eyes trained on her, could hear traces of this and that phrase being whispered about her. How long would it last? Too long. Why? Because they could all see all the beautiful and special things Lucy had so readily given up. And they were right.
I have get out of the building. Her legs seemed to agree; a few moments later she leaned up against a tree and slid to the damp ground. A hot tear peeked out the corner of her blue, red-rimmed eyes, then as cool as you please, boldly rolled down her cheek leaving an angry red mark.
The rest of its disgracing friends followed soon after.
